The Gansu Changma Wind Project is perfectly situated on the edge of the Gobi desert to take advantage of the extremely high winds in the area. The electricity generated by this project is delivered to the Northwest China Power Grid (NWPG), which has previously been largely connected to fossil fuel powered plants.

Since 2022 the wind farm has been connected to the power grid and it has transmitted over 100 million kWh of green electricity through its ultra-high-voltage (UHV) direct current transmission line.
