Are you done living a wasteful lifestyle and have thought about starting a green lifestyle for a while now? Yes, starting to live greener can seem a bit mind-boggling, especially when you are not quite sure where to start. But worry not, here are 5 lifestyle tips to help you start.
Tip 1: Eat less meat
Did you know that it takes 100 to 200 times more water to raise a pound of beef than plant foods? As you probably know, vegetables and fresh fruits are teeming with nutrients that have multiple benefits for our health and well-being. Variety is the spice of life, so why not try new recipes?
Tip 2: Use less plastic
Grocery shopping can be much greener if we all can swap plastic bags to canvas bags. They are sturdy and they hold more stuff. Alternatively, reusing your plastic bag is a great way to approach an eco-friendly life. Every small change can make a big difference.
Tip 3: Use less paper
Straight forward, the less paper you’ll need the more trees can grow in the forests. We now live in a world that runs on computers and digital technology. Did you know that more than 40% of municipal waste is paper products? Now, here’s a start; let's cancel those paper statements.
Tip 4: Cut down on energy
Emissions from our homes represent around a quarter of the average carbon footprint. There are many ways to cut back on the energy you use in your home; unplug appliances when you don't use them, hang your laundry to dry instead of using a tumble dryer and lower down your home temperature by 1°C less. Sometimes tricks to transitioning to a carbon-neutral life are literally as easy as a click of a button.
Tip 5: Don't buy stuff
Borrow, and if you must buy; check out the second-hand shops. You will save money and help those items that need to be kept in a landfill. Living eco-friendly life does not mean you have to settle for less, a lot of these second-hand items are really just as good as the original.
